But at the end of the day, they always seemed to find a rather large obstacle standing in their way of their getting rich: the Grand Canyon itself. Miners, loggers, ranchers and other like-minded individuals labored, dreamed and schemed in an effort to make a buck off the Grand Canyon’s natural resources. But this wasn’t enough to protect the immense chasm from people who wanted to exploit it. The area first came under Federal jurisdiction in 1893 as a Game Preserve later it was “promoted” to National Monument. Remember it is far harder to climb up once you turn around.Believe it or not, it actually took awhile for the Grand Canyon to attain National Park status. These items would include such essentials as water, snacks, first aid kit(s), maps, sunscreens, and various layers of clothing. If you are hiking the Grandview Trail, make sure to take appropriate supplies with you.Having a light rain jacket or poncho with you is never a bad idea! At this elevation, rainfall is more common.As a result, plan accordingly, and hike with caution. Segments of the Grandview Trail can be rather steep-and during inclement weather (especially rain or snow) very slick.If touring Grandview Point is a priority for you (and your family), you might want to plan on going to this attraction earlier in the day. Keep in mind, though, that during peak season this public lot can fill up in a hurry.
